Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians Commentary

1:55 PM IST Right then, that is it from the first game of a doubleheader Saturday and it is Chennai who break their three-game winless streak and storm to 2nd place on the points table. The second game of the day between Delhi and Bangalore is about to get underway and you can simply switch tabs and catch our coverage of that game. Cheers!
1:48 PM IST Matheesha Pathirana is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant spell of bowling.
1:47 PM IST Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai says that they didn't bat well enough and put on a total for the bowlers to defend and adds that games like this one can happen and it was just an off day with the bat. On the batting order, he says that they lost Tilak Varma and they thought they needed Indian batters in the middle overs to counter the spinners but they lost 3 wickets in the Powerplay. Mentions that Piyush Chawla has been bowling really well and the other bowlers need to rally around him and they can take a lot of learning from this game. Says that this year there is not much of a home advantage and it is all about putting your best foot forward and ends by saying that the next two games are pretty big for them.
1:46 PM IST Earlier in the game, MS Dhoni won the toss and put Mumbai into bat first on the wicket that looked good for a score of around 170-180 runs. Mumbai tweaked their opening pair as Cameron Green came in place of Rohit Sharma and that back-fired. Their top three fell inside the Powerplay and there was a lot of work to do for the middle order against an in-form spin attack in the middle overs. Young Nehal Wadhera played a solid knock and even got to his fifty and apart from Suryakumar Yadav no one else gave him much support. For Chennai, their front-line pacers, Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande picked up wickets at the start and Ravindra Jadeja bowled brilliantly in the middle phase. This was all backed up by Matheesha Pathirana who picked up three wickets in the latter stages and didn't even concede a boundary. With just 140 runs needed to win, Chennai paced their chase perfectly and got the job done with 14 balls to spare.
1:42 PM IST Mumbai will be pretty disappointed with that performance as they didn't bat well in the Powerplay and the pacers were off the mark as well. With just 139 runs on the board, the likes of Cameron Green and Arshad Khan got smashed for runs in the first two overs of the game and that put them on the back foot completely. Piyush Chawla bowled brilliantly yet again and picked up a couple of wickets as well with the debutant, Raghav Goyal holding his own as well. In the end, they just didn't have enough runs on the board and didn't have the wicket-taking ability with the quicks to cause any damage.
1:39 PM IST Chennai have breezed through the chase but this victory was really set up by their bowlers as they restricted Mumbai to a below-par total. Like most of this season, the opening pair of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got Chennai off to a quick start as they added on 46 runs for the first wicket. It was then Ajinkya Rahane who picked up a few boundaries and Chennai were cruising through the chase. Ambati Rayudu though failed to make much of an impact once again but Shivam Dube did get those big hits away to ensure that there wasn't a hiccup toward the end.
