9:30 AM IST UPDATE - 9.30 am GMT - Well, the dreaded news is here and the match has been officially ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN!
9:12 AM IST UPDATE - 9.03 am GMT - There is some good news coming in from the ground! There is an official inspection slated for 9.15 am GMT which is just about 12 minutes away. The rain hasn't stopped but we should get an official word soon regarding the state of the field and the play as well. Also, the latest a five-over-a-side contest can begin is 10.20 am GMT, so, there's still some time left before we get to that dire situation. Stay tuned.
8:44 AM IST ICYMI - Last evening in Perth, Melbourne Renegades took down the coveted Scorchers' bowling attack after coming back from the brink. Pacer Tom Rogers and the highly-rated all-rounder Will Sutherland launched an unreal comeback from 5 for 44, chasing 148 to 136/6 and then Rogers managed to even stay unbeaten and see the team through. Sutherland's knock of 70 from 45 balls to go along with a couple of wickets is certainly one of the individual performances of the season. With that win, the Scorchers and the Renegades are on level terms with 3 wins from 7.
8:39 AM IST UPDATE - 8.35 am GMT - Not much to report with regards to the weather but a few minutes ago there was some activity near the pitch. The officials were out in the middle, getting a good gauge of the on-field conditions but they had their umbrellas up which means, the rain was still around. There is still plenty of time left to get some sort of a game in but with each passing minute, overs are being lost.
8:12 AM IST Sydney Thunder have had a history of blowing hot and cold over the years in the BBL whereas their hometown rivals have had more success but this season, they have seemed like a recharged unit and were going strong guns for the first 5 matches, having lost only to the Sixers. However, a few injury concerns and a loss against a struggling Heat side has now given a lot to ponder upon. They were forced to recall Dan Christian from retirement and he didn't disappoint but the momentum has just shifted and not in their favor and they will be looking to bounce back right away and the return of Sam Konstas will be a big boost as well.
