The Mumbai chargesheet against his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and the Delhi court stay on the September 25 Special General Body meeting (SGM) might have come as setbacks for BCCI president N Srinivasan. But he had some relief after an attempt to propose Sharad Pawar as the Mumbai association representative in the AGM has been shot down.
Srinivasan has made it clear he would seek a one-year extension in the Annual General Meeting, scheduled in Chennai on September 29. However, the road leading to the president’s post might get bumpier for him with pending court cases and a few fresh ones in the offing.
The situation can take a turn for worse if former ICC and BCCI president, Sharad Pawar, throws his hat in the ring. “Mr Pawar has done so much for Mumbai and
Indian cricket. The upcoming AGM is very important for Indian cricket and I strongly believe he should represent Mumbai in it,” said a member of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) managing committee.
Interestingly, the issue was officially raised in the MCA with a member proposing Pawar’s name to represent the body in the Chennai meet. Luckily for Srinivasan, the proposal was rejected by MCA president, Ravi Savant.
It might appear as a timely relief for BCCI president but those who know Pawar would acknowledge that he is capable of finding his way once he makes up his mind. “If one looks at it on moral grounds then it can be said Srinivasan should not contest as his son-in-law has been charge-sheeted.
