Spin bowler Ajantha Mendis claimed his first ever five-wicket haul in test cricket on Friday as Sri Lanka dismissed India for 329 runs in its first innings of the second test, despite an imperious double-century from opening batsman Virender Sehwag.

Sehwag was 201 not out when India's last wicket fell at lunch on the second day at Galle International Stadium, bringing up the right-hander's 5th test double-century. He also passed the 5,000 career test-runs milestone his 59th match.

Resuming the day at 214-4 Sehwag shared 100 runs with VVS Laxman for the fifth wicket to steady India's innings after a middle-order slump.

Mendis broke the partnership when he Laxman caught by Thilan Samaraweera for 39 and sparked a collapse that saw the visitors lose their last five wickets for just 51 runs.

Dinesh Karthik scored 7 runs before being trapped lbw by Mendis and India captain Anil Kumble was brilliantly stumped by wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene off a Muttiah Muralitharan ball. Mendis returned to the crease to bowl out Harbhajan Singh and round out his five-wicket haul, before ending India's innings by dismissing Ishant Sharma lbw. On Thursday he had opener Gautam Gambhir out lbw and Rahul Dravid caught by Malinda Warnapura. India's late collapse took little away from Sehwag's commanding performance in which he amassed his double century from just 231 deliveries, studded with 22 boundaries and four sixes. Mendis finished with 6-117 while veterans Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan took two wickets each.
