Suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi seems to have shifted his focus from targetting the Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary, N. Srinivasan, to the interim IPL chairman, Chirayu Amin.
In a notice sent to the BCCI brass, Modi’s legal counsel, Mehmood Abdi, has demanded removal of Amin from the three-member disciplinary committee of the BCCI that will probe Modi’s alleged misappropriation of funds.
Abdi told HT, “Amin was a bidder for the Pune franchise and now he is supposed to inquire whether the bids were rigged or not.”
Amin had expressed his desire to invest 10 per cent in a failed bid for the Pune franchise when bids were invited.
Amin reportedly released a letter he wrote to BCCI president, Shashank Manohar, seeking his permission in case the bid was successful. “(Amin’s claim that he had sent a letter) disclosing his interest and stating that approval of the BCCI would be obtained, should the bid be successful, is false,” the notice stated.
“This explanation was not only fanciful but also an afterthought. It is interesting to note that such a letter has not seen the light of day till now. This is simply because none existed. Should it now belatedly come forth, our client will have good reason to believe that it has been falsified.”

{{/usCountry}}Respecting Modi’s earlier demand that Shashank Manohar should not be part of the disciplinary committee, the BCCI president stepped down. The BCCI’s Special General Body Meeting then unanimously appointed Jyotiraditya Scindia, as Manohar’s replacement on July 3.
Modi does not seem to be convinced by Manohar’s replacement and wants retired Supreme Court judges to handle the inquiry.
