Contrary to media reports that Mohali could be struck down as the venue for the second India-England Test owing to security concerns, top BCCI officials said they had not received any such request from the touring side.
Media reports on Monday said that Bangalore and New Delhi were being kept as alternate venues for the second Test. What gave rise to speculation was that England’s security expert, Reg Dickason, reportedly flew to Abu Dhabi to brief the England players after postponing his scheduled visit to Mohali on Monday.
Punjab Cricket Association president, I.S. Bindra, told HT that he had no information about Mohali being in doubt “due to security or any other reasons”. "We are sure we can host the match with foolproof security. The (Chandigarh) administration makes the arrangements and we will leave it to them,” he said.
Bindra said he had heard nothing about Delhi or Bangalore being put on standby. “The only notification we have is that Dickason will be reaching here on Tuesday, while the two Morrisses (ECB managing director, Hugh and players’ body chief, Shaun) will reach Wednesday.
BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty categorically said, “The Test matches are in Chennai and Mohali." Brajesh Patel, hony secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, said, “All I know is, Bangalore is not hosting the second Test.”
