Former BCCI general manager MV Sridhar has died of a cardiac arrest, ANI reported Monday afternoon. He was 51. Sridhar had resigned from the BCCI post this September after he had reportedly failed to report a few conflict of interests.

Originally a doctor, MV Sridhar was considered one of the best batsmen ever from Hyderabad never to have played for India. A stylish right-hander, MV Sridhar had scored a century on debut and 366 against Andhra in 1993-94, then a record.

He had retired from all forms of cricket in 2000 at 33, just one season after surpassing the great ML Jaisimha’s record of 5,226 runs from 90 matches. He ended with 6,701 runs in 97 first-class matches with 21 centuries and 27 half-centuries. His highest individual score was 366.

MV Sridhar was appointed general manager in 2013 when the BCCI started getting more professional in its operations. He had also represented BCCI in different ICC meetings. His tenure though met a premature end this year after several cases of conflict of interest were drawn against him. Sridhar is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday condoled the sad demise of MV Sridhar. Sridhar joined the BCCI in 2013 as General Manager and played an instrumental role in Cricket Operations. MV Sridhar twice served as a manager with the Indian Cricket Team and was recently asked to supervise the Indian team during the tour to West Indies.

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association on Monday condoled the death of MV Sridhar. In a condolence message, TNCA joint secretary R I Palani said, “The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association deeply condoles the sad demise of Dr M V Sridhar, a former first-class cricketer, former honorary secretary of Hyderabad Cricket Association and former general manager, Cricket Operations, BCCI.

“A former TNCA First Division League player, MV Sridhar had an illustrious career both as a cricketer and cricket administrator. The TNCA sends it deepest condolence to the family members of the departed soul,” he said.
