Soon after taking charge from Whatmore as NCA Director (Cricket Operations) on November 1, Patil made his intentions clear, when he said that his main focus would be to create a pool of players who can be thrown into the rigors of international cricket at anytime.

"It will be my responsibility to strengthen the reserve strength for replacements in Indian cricket. We should not get into a situation like how Australia find themselves in the ongoing one-day series. We need to have players ready to play international cricket at any given time," Patil said while addressing the media in Bangalore on Wednesday.

He, however, refused to set any specific goal for himself, saying he would like to carry forward the good work done by Whatmore and his team.
