The IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi said on Wednesday there would be no fourth Indian or a second English team for the Champions League T20 in October. This is if Northamptonshire qualify for the final of the domestic T20 tournament in England, the semi-finals of which are slated for Saturday at Edgbaston.

Northamptonshire have three players, all South Africans — Nicky Boje, Andrew Hall, Johan van der Wath — who are yet to serve the six-month ‘cooling off period’ after severing ties with the Indian Cricket League. In the semi-finals, Northants take on Sussex while Kent and Somerset clash in the other semi-final.
“There will be a solution,” Modi said. Champions League rules disallow players who take part in ‘unauthorised’ tournaments. “At the same time, there would be no additional team from South Africa or Australia nor a fourth Indian team,” Modi said.
If Northants enter the final, they would be disallowed in the Champions League, creating a vacancy in the 12-team competition. Modi refused to say what exactly would be the solution.
The Chief Executive of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, Mark Tagg, refused to comment.
