It shouldn't take selectors much time to pencil down the final XI when they sit down to finalise it on Monday.
While the squad has looked more or less decided for some time now, India skipper MS Dhoni confirmed it further on Friday when he said "there are just one or two places vacant in the final 15".
"As the tournament (World Cup) is in India, we will need to see how many fast bowlers, what kind of spinners we need. It's up to the selectors to have a look at it," he said, indicating that the spots yet to be finalised belong either to the bowlers or all-rounders. Batsmen, as expected, already seem to have secured their places.Besides, Dhoni made it clear that the final 15 won't have any surprise entries. Players who have worked hard throughout the year, who have delivered in the last one-and-a-half years will get a chance. It will be wrong if you try to select the team on the basis of one performance," he said, responding to a question if performance in the coming match could have any bearing on selections.
As for picking the final XI in the current series, the skipper said they would try and give a chance to maximum number of players. "It's just one slot basically where we can experiment. Most of the others slots, whether it is the batsmen or the bowlers, are fixed," he said.
