It is learnt that Wankhede, that was to host nine games of the Women's World Cup, has been dropped as a venue for the tournament following a request by the Mumbai Cricket Association to make the venue available for the Ranji final between Mumbai and Saurash-tra from January 26.

"We had sent a request to make the venue available for the Ranji final and the BCCI has agreed to the same and we are happy with the development," MCA president Ravi Sawant said. Earlier in the day, the BCCI had announced that the Ranji Trophy final would take place at the Wankhede.

The ICC, however, has yet to make an official announcement. When contacted by HT, tournament director Suru Nayak said: "We had received a request from the MCA. All matches will now be played at the Brabourne Stadium and the Mumbai Cricket Association ground at Bandra-Kurla Complex."
