A day after announcing that the Indian team will not be accompanied by an administrative or a media manager for its 12-week long tour to Ireland, Scotland and England, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) changed its mind on Tuesday and decided to send an administrative manager for the England series.

“An administrative manager will be appointed for the England Tests and one-dayers,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told the Hindustan Times on the sidelines of the pre-departure media briefing of captain Rahul Dravid and cricket manager Chandu Borde at a city hotel.

The decision comes a day after HT had reported that the team will be without any of the two managers. Shah had told HT on Monday that they had decided not to send anyone as “they didn’t want to take any decision in haste”.

However, the decision would have resulted in Borde and Dravid, especially the skipper, getting overloaded with managing other responsibilities other than the cricketing aspects.

Shah added the candidate will be finalised in a day or two. “We will announce the name of the person in a day or two,” he said.

The decision would eventually help Dravid heave a sigh of relief since the team is not accompanied by a permanent coach, with Borde roped in as a makeshift cricket manager.
