The Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has told the BCCI that banned IPL founder Lalit Modi’s election to the association has been approved by two Supreme Court-sanctioned observers.
The BCCI had threatened to ban the RCA if it let Modi back. Despite being banned for life, the disgraced former IPL commissioner defiantly filed nominations for the post of president.
RCA officiating secretary KK Sharma said in his reply to the BCCI that the association is governed by provisions of Rajasthan Sports Act, 2005, which regulates sports in the desert state.
Sharma said the elections to RCA were taking place in accordance with Supreme Court orders appointing justice
NM Kasliwal and justice SP Pathak as principal observer and observer respectively to oversee and conduct the election.
Sharma said, “The decision in respect of eligibility/ineligibility of any candidate including Lalit Modi to contest the forthcoming elections of RCA has been taken by the two observers.”
“The observers have rejected all objections raised against the candidature of Lalit Modi and have permitted him to contest the elections,” he said.
The BCCI had written a letter to incumbent RCA president CP Joshi who had decided against contesting the polls.
"We find that the Nagaur Cricket Association has allowed Lalit Modi as president. We wish to remind you that as per the BCCI rules, all the members, including RCA, are bound to follow its decision, especially those related to disciplinary proceedings," the letter from BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel had said.
