For Thursday's match between India and Sri Lanka, they couldn't even do that.
That's because renovation work, underway for the 2011 World Cup, has brought down its capacity to just over 44,000. So, this time only complimentaries were distributed among CAB members, guests and affiliated units.
Normally, the CAB uses a complicated system to distribute complimentary and priced tickets. All members of the association get a complimentary ticket each and they number just over 32,000.
The CAB also has 121 affliated units and all of them can buy a certain number of priced tickets from the association.
The 37 first division clubs for example can buy 300 tickets each, while the 57 second division clubs can buy 200 each.
The remaining tickets (about 10,000) are sold directly to fans.
