Virender Sehwag has a way with words, especially on social media. This time the former India cricketer praised 20-year-old Smriti Mandhana for her fantastic performances in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup in England and Wales.
India have won both their matches in the eight-team event so far, thanks to Smriti, who was named Player of the Match in both the games.
A cricket fan, with the handle named SPYder, tagged Sehwag in a tweet and said that Smriti is the female version of the explosive right-handed opener.
She is the first version of Smriti and is really special. Every Indian who loves sports will be proud of her. Wish her and the team the best https://t.co/RrjavFVLc0— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) June 30, 2017
In reply, Sehwag retweeted saying: “She is the first version of Smriti and is really special. Every Indian who loves sports will be proud of her. Wish her and the team the best.”
Former Australia woman cricketer Mel Jones really liked what Sehwag said and tweeted: “One of the quotes of the #WWC17, beautifully said @virendersehwag!”
India successfully opened their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign against hosts England, beating them by 35 runs. They followed it up with a seven-wicket victory over the West Indies.
Smriti has been in top form, scoring 90 off 72 balls against England and 106 not out in 108 balls against the West Indies.
India will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan at County Ground in Derby on Sunday.
