Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ijaz Butt, wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council saying Broad's remarks were "unwarranted", PCB chief operating officer, Saleem Altaf, told AFP.

"He should have given his reaction in the official match report rather than going public," Altaf quoted Butt as telling the ICC.

Broad told reporters in Britain after the March 3 ambush in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore that TV footage showed there was "not a sign of a policeman anywhere," leaving him and fellow officials "sitting ducks".

"It is a big lie that there were no policeman. We will lodge a protest with the ICC," Butt said last Thursday.

Broad was travelling in a van behind the Sri Lanka team bus when both vehicles came under fire as they headed towards the Gaddafi stadium for what should have been the third day of the second Test.

Seven Sri Lankan players, their assistant coach and Pakistani fourth umpire Ahsan Raza were among the wounded.
