Privilege to play alongside Kumble, says Ross Taylor

It's tough enough to meet the demands of one team in Twenty20 format. But Ross Taylor does it for three teams - Central Stags, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Victoria Bushrangers. In fact, the hard-hitting batsman sees the brighter side of the difficult task.

“I guess I will get a passport of a world citizen,” he chuckles. “Actually, I feel very privileged and lucky to play for three different teams. I just hope I stay fit and energised to keep doing this for a few more years,” Taylor said.

But it took some effort to get used to different people and set-ups.

“Yes, there were a few apprehensions before I joined the teams. I was nervous also. But then that’s actually all right. It helps you to give your best for the teams.”

The genial New Zealander has endeared himself to players and spectators.

The crowds in Bangalore go berserk the moment he steps in to bat.”People in India are fanatic and crazy about their players. I get more ovations in Bangalore than back home. That does put a bit of pressure, but it’s good because you want to succeed for such devoted fans,” he said.

Despite all the pulls and pressures, Taylor sounds more than happy at being part of the Bangalore squad. For him, it’s a ‘privilege’ to play against with the likes of Kumble, Dravid and Kallis.

“Kumble is simply superb as a skipper. He keeps things simple and asks us to just go out and enjoy ourselves.”

And while he’s enjoying playing for Bangalore, he’s also a concerned about the performance of his home team Central Stags in the ongoing Champions League.

The team is looking not even half as good as it would have been with him. “It would have been nice to play for the. I hope they will do better in the coming matches.”

As of now, Taylor looks happy and content. “It’s nice to be able to do what I am doing right now,” he concludes.
