Though India have formally opened their points tally in the Twenty20 Championships, they are yet to get on to the field. Rain washed out their opening match against Scotland on Thursday and the toss was the only action possible on the wicket. Both teams were awarded a point each.
A steady drizzle throughout the day left the umpires with no option but to call the game off. It wasn't an ideal debut as captain for Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and he sounded disappointed at not being able to play.
"We wanted to have a good game," the India skipper said. "But it seems rain has been following us from England. We would have liked to get a feel of the new format."
Scotland disheartened by washout
The Scots, who still have an outside chance to qualify for the Super Eights, said they would be cheering for a Pakistan win on Friday. A Pakistan win by a huge margin will see Scotland through to the Super Eights. "We will surely be at the ground cheering for Pakistan," captain Ryan Watson said.
While Watson, just like Dhoni, was disappointed at the game being washed out, he said that the Twenty20 format gave an opportunity for the associate members of ICC to be pitted against some of the best cricket teams.
