Admitting that the team looked scrappy so far in the ICC Women's World Cup, India captain Jhulan Goswami on Friday issued a clarion call, urging teammates to raise their standard when they take on Australia in the first Super Six match in Sydney on Saturday.
The two teams have met 32 times before with Australia winning 27 matches and India just five. To make it worse, the Indian batters, barring former captain Mithali Raj, have cut a sorry figure in the tournament. Jhulan said the team is yet to play its best cricket and hoped her players would fire in this stage. "We haven't been playing up to our standards, but tomorrow's match is very important and we have to play good cricket and play positively," said the lanky pacer.
"Last time we learnt lots of things and I am hoping we won't repeat our mistakes. We will perform like a champion.
"Australia is playing on home soil, the players will have a lot of support but we have to be mentally tough and enjoy our cricket," she added.
Saturday’s match will be a repeat of the 2005 World Cup final which India lost. The two teams played a five-match ODI series last year with Australia winning all the games.
