Rajasthan were left with a mountain to climb after the Punjab batsmen notched up two more centuries before declaring at a mammoth 597/8.

The hosts, however, made a steady start and were 50 for one, and had two of their most experienced campaigners, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Aakash Chopra, in the middle when stumps were drawn.

Punjab bowlers, who have several players featuring in their maiden first-class season, started well. Opener Vineet Saxena was caught by Uday Kaul off Manpreet Gony for six. Chopra got a reprieve when he was dropped by Mandeep Singh at second slip off Manpreet Gony.
