Rohit Sharma on Sunday became the first Indian cricketer to be involved in the ceremonial ‘first pitch’ throw in major League Baseball after he was invited by Seattle Mariners to do the honour.

Sharma, who visited the United States of America along with his wife Ritika Sajdeh, took to Twitter to share a photo of the duo at Safeco Field, the home ground of Seattle Sounders. “Great fun throwing the first pitch for @Mariners with my lady by my side @SafecoField,” Rohit wrote on his official handle along with the picture.

In the past US Presidents like Barrack Obama and George W Bush have thrown ‘First Pitch’ and it’s understandable why Sharma was excited to be included in the exclusive list.

Sharma has also recently faced the axe from India’s squad against Afghanistan where the nation will play their debut game in the longest format. He, however, wasn’t too bothered. Speaking to PTI on his exclusion, he had stated: “For me, I am not at a stage to worry about whether I’ll be picked or not. I need to enjoy my game. The first five-six years of my career, it was all about ‘oh, will I be picked? Will I play’! Now it’s all about enjoying the game. These things keeps adding pressure on you. Instead, it’s best to enjoy yourself in what you do and give your best.”
