Royal Challengers beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets

Once Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey saw off the initial four-over burst by Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga, it was clear that they would cruise to the victory target of 152 and top the points table, which they did with seven wickets to spare. Amol Karhadkar reports.

Moments after Kieron Pollard and R Sathish were dismissed in the Mumbai Indians' innings, the DJ at the Brabourne Stadium played the chartbuster track of the year. Though the home team was far from comfortable then, the packed stadium joined in to sing "All Izz Well" as loud as they could.

Either, the DJ was a staunch Royal Challengers' (RCB) fan or he was too optimistic, trying to offer a ray of hope to the 20,000-odd Mumbai Indian (MI) fans that the team would emerge from the hole it had dug for itself.

Once Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey saw off the initial four-over burst by Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga, it was clear that they would cruise to the victory target of 152 and top the points table, which they did with seven wickets to spare.

But more than the Kallis-Pandey-Robin Uthappa show, which sealed RCB's third victory and MI's maiden loss in IPL III, it was the one over from R Vinay Kumar that changed the course of the match.

But over the course of the next six balls, Vinay made sure MI were completely out of the game. Not only did he clean up Tendulkar off the third ball of the over, he also dismissed Ambati Rayudu and Dwayne Bravo to put RCB on top.

From there on, Anil Kumble's men never loosened their grip. So, it wasn't surprising that by the time Kallis and Pandey started plundering boundaries at will, the DJ had gone into silent mode.
