Tendulkar suffered inflammation on his right big toe to be forced to sit out the opening ODI game while Rohit Sharma fractured his right index finger off the first ball he faced, from Stuart Broad. "Tendulkar earlier had a stress fracture on the toe and it looks to be an aggravation of the same injury," said manager Shivlal Yadav.Sharma was struck on the bottom hand as he tried to defend a short ball from Broad. He left the field immediately and went to the hospital, where scans revealed a fracture that should rule him out of the series. Not part of the Test series, the ODIs were seen as a big opportunity for the Mumbai batsman to further underline his talent.

Tendulkar will visit a specialist on Monday, and depending on the doctor's report, the call will be taken about his availability for the rest of the tour.

"He was in discomfort during practice on Friday and had severe pain. However, he was hopeful of playing the game," said Yadav.
