Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who by his own admission, was travelling in a train after nearly 15 years, had a harrowing experience recently as he had to be shifted to a different compartment after he found a fellow passenger seated in where he had initially been offered a seat.

Sourav Ganguly had boarded Padatik Express along with Cricket Association of Bengal secretary Abhishek Dalmiya, son of former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, to attend an event in Balurghat and unveil his eight-feet bronze statue when the incident took place.

In a video that’s gone viral since, Sourav Ganguly can be seen inside the compartment waiting for his seat to be vacated with police officials and security personnel but the fellow passenger didn’t budge. It’s unsure if the error was on part of the Railways to correctly allocate the seats or on part of Ganguly where he walked into a wrong compartment. Nonetheless, the tension immediately drew the attention of the crowd at Sealdah station, forcing the Railway Police Force to take control of the situation.
A little while later, Sourav Ganguly could be seen coming down from the compartment and checking the passengers’ list to find a certain “S Ganguli” been reserved a seat. The PNR number “6103472108” alongside shows that the seat had been reserved till Malda Town in a first-class compartment. However, Ganguly is later given a berth in a second class compartment to continue the journey.

It’s not often that cricketers and celebrities are found to travel by trains. Recently, former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, too, had boarded the train to travel with his Jharkhand teammates for a Ranji Trophy game though. But, it wasn’t as dramatic as this one.
Nonetheless, Sourav Ganguly’s event seemed to go on without much trouble as the former Indian cricket team captain shared a few pictures from the stage on his official Twitter handle, including the eight-feet bronze statue, stating: “Looks like me…”
Sourav Ganguly is the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and one of the three members of the Cricket Advisory Committee that recently announced Ravi Shastri as the next coach of the Indian team.
