South Africa beat Pakistan by 160 runs on Friday to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series at Karachi.

Pakistan, needing a world record total of 424 for victory, fell for 263 on the fifth and final day despite a brilliant 126 by Younis Khan.

Brief scores:

South Africa 450 and 264-7 declared;

Pakistan 291 and 263.
