The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a public interest lawsuit seeking to prevent people who are unaware of even the ABCs of cricket to contest top posts in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A bench of Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan and Justices Tarun Chatterjee and RV Raveendran dismissed the petition by Lucknow resident Prince Lenin, who said BBCI officials had been unable to defend the country's dignity and honour during the ongoing Australia tour of the Indian team.
"Were you there and know the facts first hand?" the bench asked the petitioner before dismissing his lawsuit.
Prince Lenin had also sought a court direction to the BCCI to call off the Indian cricket team's tour after Australia's alleged insulting behaviour.
Besides, he wanted the court to debar BCCI from using the word 'India' in its name.
