T20, ODI and Test cricket can coexist: Gavaskar

In a discussion with Kadambari Murli Wade on the topic 'Is cricket as we know it, dead', former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on Friday said that all the three form of games T20, ODIs and Test matches can coexist in today's world.

He said that T20 will energise the one-dayers as we can see one side scoring around 300 runs in a 50 over game these days. Gavaskar also felt that the public is fortunate these days to have a choice to pick from all the three formats of the game.

Another former star cricketer Ravi Shastri, when asked if a player's career was cut short due to too much cricket in the modern times, replied that it depends on how good the player. He further said that if a player is good enough for all formats of the game, the player career may get shortened. Shastri added that if a player is intelligent enough, he will choose a format in which he has to concentrate and last longer. However, he said that emphasis should given to Test cricket and playing for the country.
