Terror threats on mind, IPL gets Rs 250-cr cover

The Indian Premiere League has bought a “terrorism” insurance cover of Rs 250 crore for the 60-match tournament that begins on March 12, reports Falaknaaz Syed.

But terror attacks is not the only threat on IPL chief Lalit Modi’s mind. The Shiv Sena has threatened to disrupt matches involving Australians and the Telangana protests have left Hyderabad’s matches under a cloud. Sources said the Deccan Chargers’ home games would have a higher cover than others.

There is a premium on players bought at an auction. A group personal accident policy covers every player bought at an auction for between Rs 3 crore to Rs 12 crore. This variable amount works out to about seven times his match fee. Players not bought at auctions have a lower cover of about Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
