Three selectors of West Bengal’s woman cricket team and the driver of the car in which they were travelling were injured when the vehicle rammed into a parked truck on NH2 at Palsit in East Burdwan district on Sunday morning. The women selectors, Purnima Chaudhury, Shyama Shaw and Chandana Mukherjee, were travelling from Kolkata to Birbhum district to select players. They were admitted in a private hospital in Burdwan along with Biswajit Parida, the driver.

“Purnima Mukherjee and the driver have suffered serious injuries. They are undergoing treatment,” said Bhaskar Mukherjee, superintendent of police, East Burdwan district.
The car, which was travelling at high speed, hit a truck which was parked by the highway. The front of the car was mangled. Local people rescued the passengers and police took them to hospital.
“I have talked to the district administration. If required the injured people will be brought to Kolkata,” said Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Bengal’s minister of state for sports and former Indian cricketer.
