In the eye of a storm after letting banned Pakistani pacer Mohammed Aamir play for it, Surrey league side Addington has insisted that the cricketer, penalised for spot-fixing, was not paid any money.
Addington club secretary, Raheal Shafi, said the club could not afford paying the teen pacer, who is serving a five-year ban for his involvement in last year's spot-fixing scandal.
Aamir turning up for Addington has created a storm with the ICC investigating if the appearance was in contravention with the terms and conditions of the ban. "We are nowhere near Test or county standard and there was no money involved. He was very down to earth. He was relaxing and sitting on the grass and talking about life in Pakistan, life in England and where he has travelled," Shafi was quoted as saying.
Aamir, who took four wickets and scored 60 runs, said he didn't know the match was part of competitive cricket.
