At a time when players like Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh did not mince words in asking for rank turners for the upcoming Test series against England, former India coach John Wright spoke of balance.
“Using home advantage is fine by me. Obviously, if you go to play in Trent Bridge or Headingley at this time of the year, the ball is going to seam around. But in India, wickets are such that they offer a bit of turn by the third day and last five days. Even then, there were competitive matches. Making wickets that’s going to turn from Day 1 won’t be a good advertisement for Tests.”
Day-night Tests
Reiterating that he was a traditionalist when it came to Test cricket, Wright took a dig at the ICC’s nod to day-night Tests, saying, “Imagine playing a day-night Test in New Zealand. Players would freeze by the end of the day.”
