Dehradun: Uttarakhand Transport Corporation is all set to tighten the noose on its employees responsible for leakage in the revenue generation.
The corporation which incurred losses of Rs 35 crore in 2013-14 has brought it down to Rs 12 crore in 2016-17 and has currently made a profit of Rs 2 crore over the last eight months this year.
The managing director, Brijesh Sant has decided to transfer all transport inspectors (TI) of Garhwal and Kumaon region as there have been several discrepancies like spare parts and diesel theft under their supervision. “TIs are responsible for monitoring the buses and workshops. They haven’t been working properly. So I have decided to transfer the TIs of Garhwal to Kumaon and vice versa,” said Sant on Friday. There are nearly 70 TIs at the department.
In a recent drive, Sant found discrepancies at a Roadways workshop and suspended three employees and filed charge-sheet for the departmental enquiry against three. Orders to deduct one-day salary was also issued against eight other who were found to be absent.
One key reason that affects revenue generation of the corporation is lack of grant for operations in hills. The buses commute long distances, but nothing is done for their maintenance. A proposal in this regard was approved in the cabinet recently, which according to officers will help in generating revenue.
The corporation is also marred with unions and their demands. Officers claim that strict actions should be taken against those who would be found guilty of posing threat to revenue generation.
