Ahead of Independence Day, Delhi traffic police list traffic restrictions

At least half a dozen roads will remain closed, and traffic will be diverted on some roads between Monday and Wednesday.

Areas in and around central and Old Delhi will on Monday witness traffic restrictions for the full dress rehearsal of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. Parking facilities at Metro stations in Delhi will also remain closed from 6 am on Tuesday (August 14) to 2pm on Wednesday (August 15).

The Traffic Police said at least half a dozen roads will remain closed and traffic will be diverted on some roads between Monday and Wednesday.

Police said six roads—Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg and Esplanade Road and its link road—will be closed for the public from 5am to 9am on both the days.

“Vehicles, which do not have parking labels for the rehearsal parade, need to avoid Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Subhash Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and Ring Road between Nizamuddin Bridge and ISBT bridge and take an alternative route,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic) Alok Kumar.

Kumar said traffic from Sri Aurobindo Marg, Connaught Place-Minto Road, Ring Road-ISBT and Nizamuddin Bridge would also be diverted.

The police also said movement of goods vehicles between Nizamuddin Bridge and Wazirabad Bridge will also be prohibited from August 14 midnight to 11 am on August 15.

“Interstate buses will not be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT from 4 am to 11 am on August 15,” police said.

Local city buses, including those of DTC, will not be allowed to move on the Ring Road from 4am to 11 am on August 15, between Hanuman Setu and Bhairon Road T-point and take alternative routes available.

Buses terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid and New Delhi railway station will either be curtailed or diverted.

Alternative routes will remain open to railway stations, bus stations and hospitals near the venue of the Independence Day function, police said.
