A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death on Wednesday for allegedly asking for Rs 1,000 that he had lent to a friend a few months ago. The incident was reported from south Delhi’s Jaitpur area.
The accused, identified by only his first name Puneet, was arrested later. Police said the deceased, identified as Ranjan, and Puneet lived in O-block of Saurabh Vihar in Jaitpur and were alleged drug addicts.
Police said the incident took place when the duo was sitting near a drain in the area. The two ‘friends’ first entered into an altercation after which Puneet stabbed Ranjan with a knife.
Chinmoy Biswal, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), said that around 9am on Wednesday, someone called the police control room and informed them about a man was stabbed near Jaitpur drain. A team from Jaitpur police station reached the spot and learnt that the victim had been moved to a hospital.
“During the same time, information was received from a private hospital about an injured man who was admitted with a stab wound. The team reached the hospital and learnt that the man had succumbed to injuries,” said DCP Biswal.
