Delhi is known for its myriad delicacies as much as it is for its rich heritage. The growing number of food festivals are proof enough. The latest to be added to the list is a festival that promises to blend the best of the old and new that the city has to offer.
The Delhi Food Carnival under its theme of #OldMeetsNew will bring classic Delhi delicacies from the walled city such as nihari, chicken tikka and awadhi biryani that have served the Delhi taste buds for almost 100 years now, and will mix things up with newer world offerings like sushis, pastas and waffles.
“We wanted to give Delhiites a food festival that caters to every single foodie, from those who love street food and traditional recipes to those looking for newer and more contemporary cuisines,” says organiser Shahryar Khan. “The theme of old-meets-new will not just be restricted to food. We’ll also host musical performances that will have qawwalis and even a Sufi rock band. We have partnered with Fever 104 FM, and there will be a special show by RJ Rahul Makin at the venue.”
So what’s this special show, you ask? The RJ that rules every heart in the city will be hosting an episode of Fever Ki Mehfil alongside a qawwali group, and fans would see him indulge in sher-o-shayari. The carnival will also have a shopping arcade, and will be hosting competitions where visitors stand a chance to win cool prizes. “There is so much one can do here that visitors will be spoilt for choice. We have also kept the event after Navratri so that everyone can feast and enjoy without any problem,” says Khan.
