NEW DELHI: Two bike-borne men on Wednesday snatched and fled with the bag of a Latin American tourist who had come to India to witness the Independence Day celebrations. The incident was reported from Central Delhi’s Daryaganj area when the victim was on her way to her hotel.

Police said the victim, Pavla Beten Osolio Morales from Chile, was on Asaf Ali road in an auto-rickshaw when the bikers struck. They reportedly flagged and slowed down the auto-rickshaw, caught up with it. The pillion rider then reached inside the auto and made away with Morales’ bag that contained her iPhone 6 and some documents.
“The woman went back to her hotel and made a PCR call. She said that she could not note down the number of the bike as they drove zig-zag and disappeared in traffic,” a senior police officer said.
A case under sections of theft and criminal conspiracy has been registered at the Daryaganj police station. The CCTV footages from the area has been accessed and is being scanned to identify the men. The auto driver told the police that the bikers were not wearing a helmet. An investigation to identity the men has been launched.
