A person, who was absconding for the past 18 years after allegedly murdering a man on suspicion at the age of 19, was arrested here, police said today.

Sanjay (37), who was declared a proclaimed offender and carrying a reward of Rs 10,000, was apprehended from Seemapuri on a tip-off, a senior police official said.
He was wanted in connection with the murder of Haroon Viopari in April 23, 1993 suspecting that he was involved in stealing scrap from his shop in Nand Nagri.
“Sanjay told us that he was present at the shop with his brother Jagdish and father Chander Bhan. They apprehended Viopari on the suspicion of theft. They mercilessly beaten up Viopari with iron rods, who was later succumbed to his injuries,” the official said.
After they found Viopari was dead, the official said, they fled their residence to avoid arrest.
