Even as the municipal election begins in Delhi, there will be no voting in two wards on Sunday due to death of two candidates. Delhi State Election Commission has announced bypolls in Maujpur in east Delhi on May 14 and Sarai Pipal Thala in north Delhi on May 21.

Delhi is voting to elect councillors in 272 wards of three municipal corporations. Samajwadi Party candidate Dinesh from Sarai Pipal Thala passed away on Thursday after which voting in the ward had been put off.
“The bypoll in Maujpur ward will be held on May 14,” confirmed a senior official. Naseema, another Samajwadi Party candidate, died last week. The voting results for these Maujpur and Sarai Pipal Than are likely on May 16 and 23 respectively.
Polls are going on in full swing in the rest 270 wards. Around 1.3 crore people are expected to cast their votes on Sunday. Results to these wards will be declared on April 26.
