Unable to get permission from the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (planning and engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC), a technical authority that approves infrastructure projects in Delhi, MCD has decided to drop these projects with the completion deadline drawing near. The last date of completion of these projects is March 2012.

The civic agency had received funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme to build 25 foot-over-bridges across the city at various locations. Under this scheme the central government funds 35% of the project, while the state government gives 15% and the executing agency pays 50%.

In addition to this, it had also received grants to construct grade separator at Shankar Road, intersection of Pusa Road and Dr KS Krishnan Marg and Patel Road and third at intersection of Pusa Road, Arya Samaj Road, Faiz Road, Ridge Road and Panchkuian Road.

“A meeting was held on Friday to discuss the progress of JNNURM projects. MCD expressed its inability to complete the four projects due to delay in getting clearance. We told them that they could take up other schemes in lieu of these projects that were being dropped. MCD has given us a scheme of road construction projects in rural area. We have forwarded their project to the central government for approval,” said a senior official of the Delhi government.
