The man, identified as Kamran Siddiqui, had questioned Ramdev over the Batla House encounter. Ramdev had been replying to that question when Siddiqui got up and threw ink at his face. Police said Siddiqui, who is a resident of Jamia Nagar and runs an NGO, had also filed a petition in Delhi High Court and NHRC on the encounter.

Ramdev had called the press conference in a bid to take forward his campaign against black money in the context of the upcoming assembly elections.

Siddiqui was immediately caught and beaten up by Ramdev’s supporters. A beleaguered Siddiqui — his shirt torn, bleeding from the mouth and without shoes — was then whisked away to the Parliament Street police station. His medical examination was conducted and he was put behind bars under Sections 153 (promoting enmity among communities) and 355 (criminal assault) of the IPC.

Jaideep, Ramdev’s close aide, claimed Siddiqui had posed as a security personnel to gain entry. “Siddiqui was carrying ink in a box of Vicks. We have also recovered a walkie talkie from him. As he runs a security agency, he managed to get a walkie talkie,” Seju Kuruvilla, additional DCP (New Delhi) said.

Siddiqui is the youngest of eight siblings. “What my brother did was wrong but what about those who had attacked him. People who have beaten him must also be punished,” Yunus Siddiqui, his brother said.
