South body passes layouts of 2 colonies

At its standing committee meeting on Tuesday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation passed the layout plans of Rajouri Garden Extension and Shakti Vihar in Badarpur, making these the first two newly regularised colonies in the civic body’s jurisdiction to get their plans sanctioned.

According to Leader of the House in the corporation, Subhash Arya, during the approval process of the layout plan, public services have been marked according to Master Plan of Delhi but it doesn’t mean that the marking for right-of-way would result in immediate demolition of the houses for widening of roads.

“The marking would be in the layout plan. So if any of the properties opt for reconstruction, they would have to leave the space marked for the particular service,” he said.

As per officials, the process took time various complex procedures were involved. “A detailed planning process was required; guidelines needed to be finalized; aerial photographs had to be taken and surveys conducted by the deputy commissioners and SDMs,” a senior corporation official said.

East Azad Nagar in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation was the first colony to get its layout plan passed earlier this year, followed by Bhagwan Park colony in Burari under the North civic body’s jurisdiction.

There are 1,639 unauthorised colonies that are home to nearly 40-50 lakh people in Delhi. Of them, the government in September had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies.
