In a bid to strengthen the security at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), authorities have installed an under-vehicle scanner (UVS) at the entry of multilevel car parking at Terminal 3.
UVS is used by security agencies all over the world to scan underbelly of a car. The equipment is mainly used for checking the structure under the cars to make sure there is no illegal modification or a hidden suspicious object.

“After conducting a security audit, we felt the need of UVS and asked the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to install the same,” a senior Delhi Police officer said.
“Vehicles entering the parking lot have to stand over the scanner for few seconds. The system scans and compiles a high-resolution image of a vehicle’s undercarriage. Another camera, which is part of the system, captures the image of the driver,” the officer added.
