Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, a 1980-batch IAS officer, took over on August 13. A postgraduate in botany, a law graduate and a MBA from Australia, Srivastava last served as the chief secretary, Government of Goa.

"I don't know much about planning but I understand the needs of the citizen and I want to stress on the planning part and how the city should grow," he said in a press meet on Thursday.

Instead of people coming to DDA for various kind of work, Srivastava wants the DDA to reach them.

"I want to improve grievance redressal and would see whether at least 20% can get redressal sitting at home," he said.

Srivastava said one of the biggest problems faced by people is conversion of property from leasehold to freehold and promised a computerised system soon. The system is undergoing trials at present. The online system would be first available to group housing and DDA flat owners, he said.

He said out of the one lakh houses that DDA promises to build for the economically weaker sections, 9,650 are already under construction, tenders for 25,000 have been issued and 20,000 are in the conceptual stage.

He also mentioned that work has started on the three urban extension roads, totaling 157 km, that would connect peripheral areas of the city and would enable people to travel faster without entering the inner areas of the Capital.
