The acting principal of a Delhi University college has been accused by an associate professor of allegedly committing fraud in admissions under the extra-curricular activities (ECA) quota.
The professor has also filed a police complaint.
“The acting principal of our college has released the list of students to be admitted on the basis of ECA which is different from the one I, as the convener of the college ECA admission committee, had submitted to him. Any list for admissions on the basis of ECA is not valid without the signature of convener,” Suraj Yadav, an associate professor at Swami Shradhanand College, said in his complaint.
Yadav alleged that he has been under pressure to change the list for the last few days and said that few of the students whose names figure on the new list had not attended the trials. “When I didn’t agree to the changes, the acting principal also issued a showcause notice to me,” he said.
However, the principal rejected the allegations as baseless and alleged Yadav had admitted more students than the sanctioned strength last year under ECA quota and was attempting to do the same this year.
“These are baseless allegations. Suraj had last year enrolled over 180 students crossing the permissible limit for ECA admissions. I intervened and released a list of 33 students from the list that was sent to me. We can only admit around 70-80 students under the sports and ECA quota. There are 45 seats under the ECA quota,” acting principal Parveen Garg said.
