The entrance exam for admission to postgraduate courses in Delhi University will now have only multiple choice questions.
The university is likely to do away with subjective questions from the entrance exams starting this year in an attempt to ensure transparency in checking. “The entrance exams for all subjects will have only objective-type questions. From this year there will be no subjective questions in entrance exams,” sources in the PG admission committee told HT.
DU has formed an 18-member admission committee to frame rules for postgraduate admissions. These rules will be sent to the vice-chancellor for final approval.
Till last year the entrance test for different courses used to be a mix of subjective and objective questions. “Some departments used to have a mix of both types while some had only subjective or objective. But as per UGC guidelines all entrance exams have to be objective only to maintain transparency,” sources said.
The committee has also said that the all-India entrance tests will be conducted in Kolkata, Chennai, Jammu, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Varanasi. The admission process for the 2016-17 academic session is likely to begin by April 25.
The committee has recommended that the admission process, including submission of admission fees, be done online.
“All students have to apply online. They can get details from DU’s official website du.ac.in,” officials said.
The entrance test for around 8,000 seats in postgraduate courses is likely to begin from June first week.
The registration fees for general and OBC categories students will be Rs. 500 and SC, ST and PwD (persons with disability) categories students will have to pay Rs. 250.
The admission to postgraduate courses is granted through entrance exam and interview. However, departments reserve 50 % seats for direct admissions to students who have completed their undergraduate degree from DU.
“For MA courses there are 50 % seats for direct admission if the applicant has graduated from DU. Rest of the seats are filled through entrance and interview,” officials said.
The online registration for admission to 54,000 seats in undergraduate courses will begin from May 24.
