The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced results for the Joint Entrance Examination-Mains (JEE-Mains, paper 2) late on Monday night. Students were allowed to check their individual ranks and for those who appeared for both the papers this year, the better of their two performances has been considered as their final score. Based on the combined marks of paper 1 and paper 2 of JEE-Mains, 24 students have scored 100%.
Kandivli resident Ankit Misra has ranked first in Maharashtra and has an all-India rank of 13.
This year, 9.35 lakh candidates registered for the second phase of JEE-Mains exam, out of which 8.81 lakh appeared for the exam held between April 7 and 20. The first phase, held in January, saw approximately 9.29 lakh registrations, of which 8.64 lakh had appeared for the exam. “After the April session, ranks of JEE candidates have been released, taking into consideration better of the two scores of all candidates who appeared for JEE in both phases,” said an official from the JEE department of the NTA.
Among the candidates who scored 100% are 17-year-olds Ankit Misra and Kartikey Gupta from Mumbai. Both of them took the exam in the first phase. Misra is the Maharashtra topper and has ranked 13th in India. He hopes this will be enough to get him a seat in the computer science department of Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay. “Since I had already scored a 100 percentile in the first phase of the examination, I didn’t appear for the second phase. My focus is now on performing well in the JEE Advanced exam in May,” said Misra.

He will be appearing for for the JEE-Adv exam in May and hopes to better his performance. Ranked at 24 is Pune resident, Raj Agarwal.

{{/usCountry}}This year onwards, JEE-Mains aspirants have the choice of taking the exam twice (January and April cycles). While the level of difficulty and pattern of the examination remain similar to past years, the exam was only conducted in the online format and over 14 days in each cycle, with multiple sessions each day, in 2019. This was done to reduce cheating and manipulation during exams.
