Not having chosen maths in Class 11 and 12 might not have been a good idea for those aspiring to study in Delhi University (DU). Several courses offered by the varsity require having studied and passed math exams.
B.Com honours and Economics honours, the two most sought after course at DU require Maths as a subject in Class 12. It is not necessary to include it in the best of four subjects, but passing it is a must. Similarly, there are a host of other subjects for which maths is mandatory.
Computer Science demands the student to have studied mathematics, one language and two other academic subjects.
For computer science, having studied Mathematics, one language and two other academic subjects are necessary. For Mathematics Statistics, 50% aggregate marks are a must.
Maths is also compulsory for B.Sc. (Hons) in Physics, Chemistry Electronics Instrumentation, B.Sc. Mathematical Sciences and B. Sc. Physical Science. For Polymer Science, Maths along with Physics and Chemistry is mandatory.
The subjects required for studying B.Sc. (Hons) Food technology and B.Sc. (Hons) Bio-Chemistry are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology or Bio Tech. Selection will be made on the basis of the percentage of Physics-Chemistry-Maths (PCM) or Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB). However, if PCM is chosen as part of the best of four subjects, the student will get a 3% relaxation. For management courses such as Bachelor of Management Studies, BA Business Economics and BBA in Financial and Investment Analysis, for which an entrance test is held, those without Maths in Class 12 cannot apply.
