Bharatiya Janata Party's Prabhu Chauhan won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Vijaykumar by a margin of 10,592 votes.
The top two candidates split 95.3% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Prabhu Chauhan got a total of 75,061 votes, while Indian National Congress's Vijaykumar secured 64,469 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate Dhanaji secured 2,605 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 51.3%, 44.0% and 1.8% respectively.
In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Bharatiya Janata Party's Prabhu B. Chavan defeated Karnataka Jantha Paksha's Dhanaji Bheema Jadhav by 23,191 votes.
