Indian National Congress's B. Narayanrao won the election by upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Mallikarjun Son Of Sidramappa Khuba by a margin of 17,272 votes.

The top three candidates split 95.2% of votes between them. Indian National Congress's B. Narayanrao got a total of 61,425 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Mallikarjun Son Of Sidramappa Khuba secured 44,153 votes. Janata Dal (Secular)'s candidate P.G.R. Sindhia grabbed the third spot with 31,414 votes. The top three parties got 42.7%, 30.7% and 21.8% respectively.

In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Janata Dal (Secular)'s Mallikarjun Sidramappa Khuba beat Indian National Congress's B. Narayanrao by 15,893 votes.
