What happened last time

In the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election, there were 13 candidates in the fray from Bidar South constituency. Bidar South was one of 37 seats won by the Janata Dal (Secular). Janata Dal (Secular)'s Bandeppa won the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr Shailendra Beldale by a margin of 12,742 votes.

The top three candidates split 96.1% of votes between them. Janata Dal (Secular)'s Bandeppa got a total of 55,107 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr Shailendra Beldale secured 42,365 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Ashok Kheny grabbed the third spot with 35,131 votes. The top three parties got 40.0%, 30.7% and 25.5% respectively.

In Karnataka Assembly election 2013, Karnataka Makkala Paksha's Ashok Kheny defeated Janata Dal (Secular)'s Bandeppa Khashempur by 15,788 votes.
